Mark Schefkind, M.D. is an Ophthalmologist & Cataract Surgeon who has provided medical, laser & surgical eye care to the Mt. Vernon, Springfield & Alexandria communities of Fairfax County, VA since 1989. Dr. Schefkind earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Society, followed by a residency in Ophthalmology at the Scheie Eye Institute of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Schefkind specializes in routine as well as complex cataract surgery with a special interest and expertise in bladeless laser cataract surgery and the use of advanced intraocular lens implants (IOL), including toric lens implants to correct astigmatism and multifocal lenses to help cataract surgery patients reduce their dependence on eyeglasses, bifocals or reading glasses, and achieve a full range of vision after cataract surgery. Dr. Schefkind offers patients comfortable, convenient, close to home same day ambulatory cataract surgery at the INOVA HealthPlex in Springfield. In addition, Dr. Schefkind serves as Chief of Ophthalmology at Mt. Vernon Hospital. He has been named a top doctor in the Washingtonian and Northern Virginia magazines.
